Mrs. Deringer -First Quarter Project

Complete an experiment that answers the problem statement: Will adding (your chosen independent variable) to a water-filled vase of fresh cut flowers keep them alive longer?
Procedure:
1. Reread lab book pages 26-29 "First Quarter Project" to review the basic set up directions.

2. Complete Your Background Information: You will need to gather some background information to help you choose your independent variable. Your background information should include:

  • your independent variable
  • the web sites you used
  • type of flower you used in your experiment
  • the normal vase life for that type of flower
  • at least 1 other suggestion for keeping cut flowers alive

3. Set up the experiment. You will need 2 set ups (one with plain water and one with the independent variable).

4. Keep a log of your observations. Look in your lab book pg 27 for a sample log.
5. If the water begins to evaporate you may add more water to keep it at the same level you started with.

6. When both of the flowers in the experiment dies, your experiment is OVER.
7. Use the scientific method format in your lab book pages 28 -30.

8. Make a bar graph which shows how long each flower lived. Sample on Lab book page 27.

9. Mount the TYPED experiment, pictures, log, and graphs on a HALF SHEET of oak tag board.
10. Due Date will be given in class.
