How to Focus a Compound Microscope.

 

Before attempting to focus the microscope you need to make sure you have enough light. One way to increase the amount of light is to adjust the mirror to reflect more light. Another way to increase the amount of light is to adjust the diaphragm. Be sure the diaphragm is completely open .

To Focus on Low Power

Procedure:

1. Begin on the lowest objective lens.

2. Lower the objective lens as low as it can go.

3. Use the coarse adjustment knob to bring the specimen into focus.

4. Use the fine adjustment knob to increase the sharpness

To Focus on High Power

1. Focus on low power first.

2. Rotate the nosepiece to the high power objective.

3. Use only the fine adjustment knob.

Do not use the coarse adjustment knob or you may crack the slide.
